Jvari Monastery is a masterpiece of 6th-century Georgian architecture, standing on a hilltop above the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers opposite Mtskheta. The church was built on the spot where, according to tradition, Saint Nino erected a wooden cross.

This tetraconch church (c. 590–605) is one of the earliest and most influential examples of medieval Georgian church architecture. Since 1994 it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Historical Monuments of Mtskheta".
